Installing this plugin enables you personalize the right-hand side of your search results page with sources such as Wikipedia, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, Amazon,Linkedin,CNN and a number of other sites. So you can actually see results from 5-10 search engines conveniently (can be more though) with one single query. It does not spoil the search experience of the original site (eg Google) since you are getting these results on the right side which is the ad area. It also enables Playback and full-text search your visual browsing history though you can this recording off and on. A very useful application for those who want to do multi-searching.

This is a very powerful plugin which enables one to search multiple search engines of choice easily by dragging and dropping keywords on webpages. After installing it, when you are on a webpage and you want to search a word, just highlight the word � drag the highlighted word � you will see a the image grid of all your selected search engines- drop the word into that engine � get results for your query. You might have seen many sites which provide a Firefox search plugin and adding the search box to your firefox search bar becomes easy with this plugin. However, there are many sites where these plugins are not provided. But with this plugin, you can search any site from your firefox searchbar. Just add this plugin and when you are on any site � just place your mouse in its search box right click add click on �Add to Search Bar. Thus within few seconds, you can search your favourite site from Firefox search bar instead of going to that site and then searching. Cool , isn�t it? Adding this firefox plugin enables you to get a Tag Cloud over the search results page of Google, Yahoo and Twitter. It suggest the tags on the basis of your query and provides multiple options . Eg in Google/Yahoo, it will also show you related sites ,clicking on which will search these sites for your query. Its functionality in Twitter is most useful as it enables you to find people who have tweeted about the query, provides a tag cloud over a twitter homepage and clicking on one of the tages enables you to search that homepage for the keyword. Besides there are various other options to enable you play around. It can be easily turned off with a click.

Though sounding simple, you can easily understand a lot about a site by using these two parameters. If the Google PR is high but Alexa Rank is low, it shows that the site is highly linked (and thus respected) but does not get too much traffic. Or if the ALexa Rank is high and the PR is low, then it shows that the site is getting popular fast but Google is yet to recognize it . If both are high, then it speaks high of that site. Alexa rank , however, tends to be more accurate for high traffic sites .And right clicking on the Alexa Rank image brings up many details about the site without needing to open Alexa.com

This plugin enables you to automatically bookmark all the pages that you have browsed on all your computers..Means, that you don�t need to bookmark pages , and can access the history of all pages that you have bookmarked , on all your computers and all your browsers.The advantage of this history storage is that when you make Google searches, it shows you results from your web history on the right side (see image below) . Thus you are actually getting results served to you from the web pages that you have visited in the past.But there is a catch. You need to install their toolbar on all your computers and create an account on Infoaxe. I personally do not like installing new toolbars and therefore do not use this plugin.But those who do not have such inhibitions may find it quite useful.

Tutorial: Gmail Phone Calls : Installation in Gmail

When you bring up Gmail for the first time after Call Phones hits your Gmail account, you�ll see an overlay alert pointing to the new �Call phone� link on the left navigation bar. When you click the overlay�s �Try it now� button, you�ll see a grayed-out dial pad appear in the bottom-right corner of Gmail and the usual terms acceptance and install button in another overlay. This done, you proceed to the �Install voice and video chat� screen. This installs Google�s audio/video communications browser framework�the same framework you install with Google Voice. This similarity originally led us to think that there would be more cross-functionality between the two services, but there presently is not. The only hitch in this installation process is that completion of the Google voice and video chat installer will prompt you to restart all browsers before its functionality becomes enabled. So if you�re like us and tend to have a dozen or so tabs open at any given time, this restart can be a pain.

Confirm Your Settings

When your browser restarts and you return to Gmail, you�ll be prompted once or twice to install browser add-ons. Click through to enable the plug-ins. With this done, you�ll likely land at the Gmail Settings screen under the Chat tab. Use the pull-down menus to select your preferred camera, microphone, and speaker devices. In the screen grab above, you can see that we haven�t plugged in our webcam yet, which is fine. Obviously, Call Phones doesn�t require a camera. As does Google, we strongly recommend leaving echo cancellation checked. It�s interesting that right under the Voice and video chat section there�s a Google Voice section that allows you to enable or disable outbound voice calling from Gmail with Google Voice. Yet when you click through the �Learn more� link, there�s no subsequent mention of Google Voice, only the Call Phones feature. So confusing. Come on, Google, just blend the two and get it over with.

The New Addition

If you don�t know it�s there, you might miss the new �Call phone� link tucked innocuously in the Chat section of Gmail�s left navigation bar. When you click the �Call phone� link, it spawns a dial pad widget in the bottom-right corner of your browser. Thankfully, Google doesn�t require users to type �+1� at the start of every call to a U.S. phone line as some other VoIP providers have done.
Notice the pop-out icon located next to the X symbol on the dial pad. This spawns the dial pad into a new window. We quickly fell into the habit of planting this alongside our Skype dialer on a secondary screen, leaving the open question of which would get used more in the months to come. Predictably, the pop-in link in the bottom-right of the dial pad window will snap the pad back into the bottom-right of its original browser window�unless you�ve already closed that window, in which case the dialer will go nowhere.

Rates

There are two tabs in the dial pad. The first is for the pad itself, but the second, which looks like a clock face, contains your call history. To the right of these tabs you may see a figure of $0.10. This is the amount of calling credit Google gives new users to persuade them to call other countries and see how the service sounds. With the pull-down menu, you can spawn new browser windows to your Google Voice history, calling rates, and add more credit to your Voice account.
Keep in mind that, unlike Skype, Call Phones is free for connections in the U.S. and Canada. This may change at any time after the end of 2010. Google has come out swinging at Skype�s international rates, as well. You can see in Google�s chart above some rate comparisons that look favorable for Google, but these numbers ignore the many bundle deals that Skype offers. In reality, for occasional and frequent calling to international locations, Skype is more affordable than Google lets on. Google may still have an edge in many cases, but it�s not a yawning gap.

Making the Call

When you want to make a call to any number from Gmail, you start by clicking the �Call phone� link in the left navigation bar and use the pop-up dial pad widget. In typical Google fashion, you can also start typing a contact name into the text entry field and the UI will provide a list of anyone in you Gmail Contacts list fitting that test. For example, if you type in �st,� Google will fill the pop-up list with all contacts containing �st� anywhere in their name, not just the first two characters. So �Stan Lee� would appear along with �Best Buy.� Unfortunately, the search results don�t include matches from your voice call history.
While on a dial pad-dialed call, all you see is the dial pad with a running counter for the call duration. When the call finishes, it leaves a conclusion box at the bottom of the browser window showing the time of the call along with a redial link. It doesn�t revert back to or spawn another dial pad. You need to keep hitting that �Call phone� link to bring up a new dial pad, which can result in a trail of finished call boxes along the bottom of your browser unless you close them.
You would think that Gmail would also have a shortcut for calling people straight from your Contacts, especially since you can see their phone numbers on your screen, but you can�t.

1. Type �about:config� into the address bar and hit return. Scroll
down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really
speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set �network.http.pipelining� to �true�
Set �network.http.proxy.pipelining� to �true�
Set �network.http.pipelining.maxrequests� to some number like 30. This
means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.

Name it �nglayout.initialpaint.delay� and set its value to �0?.
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you�re using a broadband connection you�ll load pages 2-30 times faster now

Forget Farmville, Playboy is Making Poisonville

Grand Theft Auto: fictional U.S. city.

Facebook gets lots of playtime thanks to Zynga's Farmville, Mafia Wars and other games; Playboy is hoping to replicate some of the success by getting some online games of its own for its website.
Playboy announced it will launch a new video game label in late 2010, in partner with Bigpoint, known also for working on Battlestar Galactica Online.
The first project from Playboy and Bigpoint will be Poisonville, which is essentially a Grand Theft Auto type of game with hot women.

The press release describes it:

Poisonville is an action-oriented, Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) that puts gamers into a fictional U.S. city where crime and corruption rule the streets. Players must complete a series of missions in order to counteract corruption, regain respect, and rebuild their reputations. Throughout the game, players will be encounter beautiful, Playboy-caliber women. In full-3D, players can drive a variety of vehicles, engage in player vs. player combat, and compete in ongoing competitions designed to stimulate gang warfare – all through a standard web browser.
"We're excited to expand our global partnership with Playboy and introduce Poisonville to U.S. gamers," said Heiko Hubertz, founder and CEO, Bigpoint. "Launching this new game through Playboy.com will allow us to directly tap into our ideal gaming audience – avid, online men between the ages of 18-35. We look forward to engaging gamers in new and exciting ways through Playboy's network of high-traffic websites."

Google launches dedicated site for real-time search

Google has taken its real-time search offering to the next step, adding many new features and launching a dedicated site for the service. The company added real-time features to its main engine last year, but starting today, users can swing by Google.com/realtime to track up-to-the-minute information that pours out of places like Twitter and Facebook. Google notes that the page is still rolling out and you can use this link if the aforementioned URL doesn't work yet.

There are several new features to help you refine your search and results are automatically updated when new data is available. A geographic filter lets you pull up results from a specific city, state or country. The conversations view aggregates retweets and other replies so you don't have to click through a bunch of links to find them yourself. Meanwhile, Google Alerts will email you when information with certain keywords is posted online.
